In early June I had the honor of being selected for the Gilda’s Club Seattle 14th Annual “Surviving With Style” Fashion Show. For those of you who don’t know about Gilda’s Club they offer broad, community-based programs of social, emotional, and educational support for cancer survivors, their loved ones and friends and provide sustained support, education and resources on-site in the Seattle Clubhouse and off-site with collaborating partners. They truly are a remarkable resource and partner in the Seattle Community.
Each spring, Gilda’s Club Seattle hosts their largest fundraiser of the year – their “Surviving With Style” Fashion Show, where local cancer survivors and even those who are currently battling cancer come in and audition to model in the fashion show. Those selected are then assigned a local retailer or designer whose clothing they model for the fundraising fashion show. As each cancer survivor works the runway in their designer outfit their story of battling cancer and survival is told by one of two emcees.
I had the pleasure of wearing sleek black Piazza Sempione dress that I paired with my favorite red patent leather heels.
I have to admit that the day I participated in the “Surviving with Style” fashion show was one of my favorite days of my life. I met the most incredible people who had the most heroic stories when it came to battling their cancers. To be honest I felt as though I got off easy when I heard what others had suffered through…and some on multiple occasions! I felt my sister with me the entire day and what touched me most and truly melted my heart was that I had the loving support of my dear, dear friends Jess Estrada, Carrie Ferran, Anisa Ghadrshenas, Cherie Wong and Ryan Horner in the audience cheering me on as a nervously made my way down that runway. Having them in the audience was like having angels watch over me…because that’s what Gilda’s Club is really all about – getting support and love when you need it most. Love you guys!!
